The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment by using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.
TIME: 4 Hours


Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until paramedics arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

The Heartsaver Paediatric First Aid CPR AED course is designed to teach child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an epinephrine pen, as well as child CPR AED, Infant CPR and optional modules in adult CPR AED, child mask, infant mask and asthma care training for child care providers.

Food allergy-related reactions account for an estimated 30,000 emergency room visits each year. In this course, you will begin to understand how allergies work and, why they happen. You are taught to identify the signs of a mild and a severe allergic response as well as how to manage these conditions.

Basic care for injuries or sudden illnesses until advanced medical care can take over. Handling emergency situations; basic disease transmission precautions; recognizing and caring for bleeding, wounds, sudden illness; and immobilizing muscle, bone and joint injuries.

This course includes and extends the topics typically taught on a first aid course and is intended for those of us who would be expected to take a leadership position in an emergency while on a hike through the bush, during a diving trip or on an overland adventure through Africa

Adventurers, travellers, farmers and remote site workers who are often far from hospitals and ambulances. We have had a wide variety of students on previous courses including school teachers with no medical experience, and those with years of medical experience such as ops medics, doctors and paramedics. Our students also have a variety of bush experience from casual day walkers to expedition mountaineers. We believe such a mix is important to ensure a stimulating learning experience for all.

The course consists of 2 phases, in the theory phase a set of lectures are scheduled for weekday evenings over a number of weeks. Each lecture session consists of a quiz to assess the topics already covered, a few lectures and a practical session. This is followed by a practical phase which takes 2 to 3 days. These days are spent continuously in the bush practising the skills that were covered in the theory phase.
