Description

Audience: Nurses, doctors and paramedics all welcome.

 

Course Duration: 2 Days – from 07:00 on Saturday to 17:00 on Sunday

Students will need to be ready and able to camp/stay in rustic accommodation (and so will need to bring their own tents, meals will be provided for the evening of the Saturday and snacks will be provided but students will need to make provision for lunch/breakfast meals)

 

The course will cover the following:

  • An approach to remote medicine
  • Communication and safety in the remote environment
  • Preparation and equipment readiness for the remote environment
  • Evacuation planning for patient extrication
  • Simulation and patient scenarios in the wilderness environment

 

Pain management, temperature management, improvisation and remote critical care will be practiced and discussed.

    Course Certification:

    An AIEM certificate of completion will be issued upon successful completion of the course, a written and practical assessment are required in order for this certificate to be issued.

    SAQA accredited content for the US 119567 or for an advanced level: US 376480 is used, however SAQA accreditation is only applied if there is a requirement for this, and should be discussed on a course by course basis (this includes additional content and more notional hours as well as development of a portfolio of evidence).

    Course Duration: 5 Days (3 day theory and 2 day practical in a wilderness setting)

    WFA manual is provided in an e-book format for the course
